Chair's Welcome

Ted Johnson Theodore Johnson, II, MD, MPH

Professor and Chair

Welcome to the Emory Department of Family and Preventive Medicine! I’m proud to serve as Chair for a department uniquely qualified to provide comprehensive team-based primary care services, interdisciplinary health professional education, and community-based research in the metro Atlanta area. We are proud of our positive trajectory as evidenced by:

  • Our Family Medicine residency training program’s expansion from 24 to 30 individual trainees
  • Our education programs helping Emory School of Medicine match more graduates in Family Medicine in 2017 than ever before in our School’s history
  • Opening of two new faculty Family Medicine practice sites with full-scope Family Medicine practice
  • Our new Preventive Medicine leadership (program director and division director) matching 2 Emory residency graduates in this year’s Preventive Medicine residency class
  • Our Physician Assistant program being ranked in the top 3 in the nation
  • Our Family Medicine training site being certified by NCQA as a level 3 patient-centered medical home
  • Our recent research and program funding from PCORI, the University Research Council, and coverage of findings by The New York Times and The Washington Post.

We hope you enjoy our department website and hope that it will assist you in finding a provider, learning about our training programs, or making a connection with our faculty and staff.
